IM Mortal ( Part 2)

Sorry for the late post! Here is the final chapters of the short story i made about the P. Stone. Watch out for my movie review to X - Men: Days of Future Past^^. Memento Mori!

III.

A year after the incident, people from all walks of life begun to change rapidly. From the infinite festivity and orgies that they wallow themselves they starting to feel less and less pleasure of living. Nobody enjoys drinking, smashing things and making love since the day the whole world witness how a small pale girl meet her demise. No one shouldn’t die now but here is a lone girl who is resting now in its final place. Nobody knows who killed the girl for no one care about that day on what is killing and dying.
Many begun to question if the Philosopher Stone if it is still effective and can sustain their lives, their capriciousness and their pleasure. Critics begun to appear to bashed Dr. Flambell endlessly. Doubting his discovery which before they revere and worship more than any gods in the world. No one knows that Pandora died not because the stone failed, but Dr. Flambell is the one who really fails to become a good father and he over look the consequence of his discovery.
“The Philosopher Stone, the miraculous discovery of the great scientist Dr. Flambell has been forcedly confiscated by the people and then burn it on the streets. After years of making people living in immortality and happiness, the stone is now believed to be a fraud and many condemned it now” the reporters voice boomed in the TV as people begun to throw the Philosopher Stone in the fire and cried “We Want Death, We Want Death, We Want Death” all over again.
“If he can provide this drug or whatever, surely he has something to counter its affect. You know, just like some of the snakes who possess both lethal poison and the antidote, Dr. Flambell is surely knows the cure to immortality. That’s logic for you” said a grinning expert in the screen. Then afterwards in the screen some videos are played wherein people begun to kill themselves once again but without the laughter and joy in their face. They are attempting different suicides with desperation and urgency. There is man there who shot himself with a gun in his head twice or thrice but he didn’t die. A woman, who drinks muriatic acid, feels a burning pain inside her and then nothing happens. A man jumping from skyscrapers, a boy who is trying to drown himself in the pool, an old woman who beg a guy to ram her with his car and lastly a bearded filthy beggar who walks along the street holding a large placard which is written on it the word “ KILL ME NOW PLEASE” is flashing on the screen. The man is tearfully begging to other people who only stare at him with their own eyes in blankness and emptiness.
All of these things are now blamed to Dr. Flambell. The famed and honorable doctor is now the most despised man of all the generations. If assassination is possible then surely Dr. Flambell will never see another sunset anytime but to the dismay of everyone, nothing can harm the doctor. Not even guns or blades for he is also immortal like them.

 IV.

Sitting on his soft and velvet couch, Dr. Flambell just watch the TV with widened eyes and expressionless countenance. Today is the 3rd death anniversary of Pandora and only a lone bottle of whiskey is his only companion. His whole mansion is as empty as his heart. Nothing can be heard but the sounds from the Television set that becomes incoherent with his ears. There is nothing that Dr. Flambell can feel now. He can’t explain why this happening to him and why he can’t feel something. No pain. No love. No one.
He look around him and saw her daughter smile. He never see that girl smile and yet now finally he can’t believe that he see her again. All smiling like an innocent angel. Her smile radiates a light that is so bright yet so soft and delicate; penetrating the Dr. Flambell into his soul. It sears it with warmth and burns it with such a feeling that the doctor had never felt. A feeling of redemption.

V.

Millions and millions of boxes are inside the 200 feet tall skyscraper wherein all this misery begun and tonight everything will also end right here. The skyscraper is now stripped out, all the gold inside and outside it are all removed. This night, Dr. Flambell will show to them that everything can be ended. Mortality is finally not a certainty but a possibility.
Dr. Flambell begun to pour the last gallons of gasoline in the same spot wherein he announced that he finally found the Philosopher Stone and how he will reproduce it. Perhaps it’s the inner child within him that makes him seek that stone, the endless curiosity didn’t pay well. What’s worse is that his curiosity didn’t kill him, though he admitted that inside he has been already dead, even before the time he discovered the stone. Even before he met Pandora, before he met his hope.
Click! His lighter blaze with a yellow flame that flickers in the darkness. Dr. Flambell look up and see again Pandora’s smile. It’s inviting him now to a new place where bliss is real and happiness came from the heart and not from a stone. The real paradise where everyone should belong. He smiled and in instant he dropped his lighter.
At the moment the flame taste the gas below, fire like tidal waves begun to spread around. From the ground floor then within a minute it covers up to the uppermost part of the skyscraper. The blazing fire brings forth a tremendous heat and light that extend to all parts of the city. As the people begun to see the burning skyscraper they can’t help but to feel the tears in their eyes. Everybody begun to feel a tremendous joy that they never felt since the day they begun to consume the stone. They ran towards the skyscrapers with so much happiness in their face like they finally found something that they have been looking for their entire life. Millions of people storm the building until one by one they are consumed also by fire. The fire is the secret; it is the key so that they will finally experience a new life. A rebirth. Death.

And then a loud ecstatic laughter is heard in the entire city. The fire keeps on burning and burning and burning. That night, the burning skyscraper outshines all of the stars in the sky.  It is the most beautiful thing that my eyes had laid upon and that is none other than what they call HOPE.
